The Rocketeer
I had a wonderful shout out from the San Francisco Cartoon Art Museum . For those who don't know, one of my heroes is the artist and legend, Dave Steven's. Creator of 'The Rocketeer'. A short run 1930's based graphic novel, that is still considered one of the greatest achievements of the comic world Disney adapted it into a classic movie. I was invited by 'The Rocketeer Trust' to do this tribute piece. Dave's sister Jennifer, kindly visited my studio and donated a whole host of source material for me. She also brought Daves sketch books, so I could see the progression of his ideas. This helped me because I wanted to do something that looked like it could have come out of Dave's vision and aesthetic.
Myself, along with other selected artists will be appearing in the Dave Steven's retrospective at the San Fransisco Cartoon Art Museum later this year, for a three month residency. In the same hallowed halls as Disney and Marvel. And all those beloved cartoon characters you know (Calvin and Hobbs, Hell Boy, Crumb etc) Afterwards to be auctioned for charity. A true honor, and my way of paying it back to the late Dave Stevens. .................This is my pencil art piece to Dave.
