'The Acorn Street Shufflers'
Introducing Augusta, Clarence, George, and Florence, the unforgettable 'Acorn Street Shufflers,' a Bostonian Barbershop Quartet that left a lasting impression. Formed by Augusta and George in 1899, the duo quickly gained popularity as a vocal double act at weddings and gatherings. The ensemble's vocal range expanded with the addition of Clarence in early 1901. Introducing Augusta, Clarence, George, and Florence, the unforgettable "Acorn Street Shufflers," a Bostonian Barbershop Quartet that left a lasting impression. Formed by Augusta and George in 1899, the duo quickly gained popularity as a vocal double act at weddings and gatherings. The ensemble's vocal range expanded with the addition of Clarence in early 1901. This harmonious quartet was further enriched by introducing a feline falsetto, Florence, who added her unique touch to their performances.
Not unexpectedly, Florence initially felt ill at ease in the company of three very large dogs. Her Father was very much opposed to such a union. This led to a nightly struggle at the door to prevent her from attending rehearsals. However, Florence, being, well, you know... a cat, would, of course, simply hop out of the nearest available window.
The quirky quartet would occasionally play rowdy venues. During these shows, the three dogs would step up to protect Florence. Even street toughs would think twice before starting a fight with a Doberman, a Labrador, and a Boxer, thus ensuring the safety of their little companion.
Their local fame never rose beyond word of mouth. Publications of the time were only interested in other local acts, which frustrated the Acorn Street Shufflers. Florence married in 1902. Her spouse was not enthusiastic about her spending time with three unattached dogs and performing in public houses, Vaudevillian theaters, and other loud venues. So, she left the troupe, albeit reluctantly.
There is no record of them continuing after Florence left, and little is known publicly about their whereabouts. But they will always be a modest footnote in the history of Boston's Barbershop Quartet scene.

Once finished, I often hand-age them and treat them with various dye methods to resemble an old dusty antique photograph. I want this series to suggest something that was rediscovered by you. An inherited artifact from a mysterious benefactor? Or perhaps revealed in a long abandoned attic, lying at the bottom of a chest. Buried beneath old dusty clothes and fading handwritten notes.
