Chantelle Albertine  Leloup

Mme.  Leloup lived a solitary life in a beautiful village, tucked away in Tirol, Austria. She was the oldest of five sisters. All had married and left home many years ago, leaving her feeling sad and abandoned. At that time, society often judged a lady by her ability to court and marry a male wolf successfully. She spent her prime years looking after her siblings. And then, one day, after her last sister had gone, she finally felt the crushing weight of loneliness.

Then THEY arrived with that little straw house—so small and so dirty — much too close to her beautiful home and garden. It let the standard of the whole village down, a standard of which she had decided. And now, this would occupy her mind and give her purpose — something to focus on outside of her empty life. She enthusiastically embraced the roll and peered enthusiastically behind laced curtains.

Spring became summer, and she showed them. They only escaped by the hair of their chins. Next time, it would be different — better for the village. Her internal voice reassured her that she was just doing her civic duty.

There was a next time, of course, in the last fleeting days of summer. She almost got them, too. She was so close. Now, it was all she ever thought about. Every notion, every action, every conversation led back to them. How dare they think they can live here. She was here first.

Now look at them. They are peering behind their lace curtains at me, peering at them. They have no right. They want the same rights as me. How dare they.

They're laughing at me now—all three of them—in their new secure, brick house. What an ugly thing it is. "Oh, I'll show them," she thought to herself. "I'll show them —finally."

..............And then one day, a letter arrived.

Illustrated in the style of a vintage Edwardian or Victorian photograph. This image is part of my 'Anicurio' collection. Each original illustration is carefully hand-drawn in pencil. Once finished, I often hand-age them and treat them with various dye methods to resemble an old dusty antique photograph. I want this series to suggest something that was rediscovered by you. An inherited artifact from a mysterious benefactor? Or perhaps revealed in a long abandoned attic, lying at the bottom of a chest. Buried beneath old dusty clothes and fading handwritten notes.

Some digital prints may have a slight enhancement from the original illustration to increase tone and color balance.
