Illustrated in the style of a vintage Edwardian or Victorian photograph. This image is part of my 'Anicurio®' collection. Each original illustration is carefully hand drawn in pencil. Once finished, I often hand age and treat them with various dye methods, to resemble an old dusty antique photograph. I want this series to suggest something that was rediscovered by you. An inherited artifact from a mysterious benefactor? Or perhaps revealed in a long abandoned attic, lying at the bottom of a chest. Buried beneath old dusty clothes and fading hand written notes.

Tommy and Cecily Tenpole - A rat love story

Tommy Tenpole, was a young rat venturing around the world, with his best mate Bertie ‘sailor Duck’ Higgins.

Having met Bertie, a fellow ‘Brit’, while serving together on HMS Fenton. This was a royal navy frigate assigned to escort duties around the Strait of Gibraltar.

Bertie was a duck, Tommy a water rat, but together, they were inseparable friends.

Cecily Doris Trent, grew up in Derbyshire, England. She came from a small family. Like her mother before her, Cecily became a seamstress.
Her best friend was a  factory worker named Betty Cloome. Together Cecily and Betty saved all their spare money for a trip along the river Rhine through to Germany in 1880.
It was here that they both met their future husbands Bertie ‘Sailor Duck’ Higgns, and Tommy Tenpole.

They all remained lifelong friends. Tommy became an under butler to the Marsden household of Biddulph Grange, and Cecily a draper for a large, local dress maker and fabric supplier.

They had a long and happy marriage, and had eleven rat ‘pups’.

Bertie has his own biography: Sailor Duck
