The Lord Giveth, But The Small Print Taketh Away , is a song lyric byTom Waites.
Often, I find reflection and un-fulfillment a deep emotional well for me to draw from.
That's what this piece is essentially about. At least at the time I painted it. Regret and the feeling that it all should have and could have turned out better.
I wanted the sky to have a lot of movement. To be troubled and unsettling. You can just about make out a 'kiln' too. These were huge ugly chimney stacks the size of two story houses. The were used to bake pottery and other ceramics. When I was a child, I remember they populated my home town of Stoke-on-Trent, UK.
